Creative work remains my most valued coping strategy, as evidenced in much of what I’ve written throughout my life. I wrote the first draft of this song just days after the 45th President of the USA took office. It’s evolved a lot since then, yet remains perpetually behind on the ongoing craziness going down every day in DC. I’ve chosen to release this track on George Washington’s Birthday, in consideration of the fact tha, as Bill Maher pointed out, our country’s first president was known, according to legend, for saying “I cannot tell a lie,” while our current one cannot tell when he is lying. I only hope the whole song is out of date by 2021, if not sooner.
With that in mind, ALL PROFITS from sales of this track will be donated to The Fair Elections Legal Network (FELN), a national, nonpartisan voting rights and legal support organization whose mission is to remove barriers to registration and voting for traditionally underrepresented constituencies and improve overall election administration through administrative, legal, and legislative reform as well as provide legal and technical assistance to voter mobilization organizations, and Rock the Vote, the largest non-profit and non-partisan organization in the US driving the youth vote to the polls.
