Some say that when Christopher Columbus found this place, because his ships were so far outside their frame of reference, the native people who lived in this isolated new world never even saw them coming. But the inital attempts of the Spanish conquerors to overcome and enslave them eventually failed, thanks to nearly half a century of valiant reistance - with a little help from the equally determined mosquitoes, of course. Consequently, the tribal culture of the Caribbean shores remained relatively unchanged until the arrival of the much friendlier Afrocarribeans who settled here in later years. The story of the earlier visitors called for a decidedly more Latin sound. Yes, that really is my guitar synth on those trumpet lines, backed by Carter building the drama on the congas.
